Peppermint Tea

Mint stats on to your desktop with Growl

Posted 27 April 2007 in by Sam Brown - 4 Comments

Tyler Hall has written a Growl Pepper for Mint that can send Website Notifications via Growl to your mac.

It’s very nifty — you can receive a notification every time someone hits your site or you can filter it based on new users and/or new referrals. The code is open source and is available on Google Code.

Very interesting idea, I would love to know how you guys go about installing and using this!

Download Growl Pepper from Google Code.

I’d love to see integration with Secret Crush, in which it only shows Growl notifications based on chosen IP addresses. This is quite awesome, though!!

This pepper works really well. Easy to set up, just install the pepper as usual. Then make sure you have Growl set up to listen to network connections, forward the correct port on your router and set a password in Growl. Then it works as expected.

Thanks Tanc, I got it working after your explanation!

I don’t recommend this for heavy traffic sites, even after I uninstalled the Pepper I was still receiving notices for another 5 minutes! :O

Better still, run it over an ssh tunnel from your mint host to your Mac.

Nice work, Tyler.
