7 Must Install Mint Pepper

Posted 15 August 2007 in by Sam Brown - 5 Comments

I have installed Mint on several new sites of late and I find myself installing the same 7 Pepper on all of them. Below is my list of 7 Must Install Mint Pepper.

User Agent 007

UA007 is always first installed, the data this Pepper provides can’t be missed.

Local Searches

Very important to know what people are searching for; is my site hard to navigate? are they finding the right results?

Trends

Perfect for finding out whats hot and whats not on your site over a set period of time.

Bird Feeder or Feedburner Stats

Either or, if you prefer letting Feedburner handle your RSS feed stat tracking then the Feedburner Stats Pepper is for you. Bird Feeder is also great for keeping tabs on your subscriber numbers.

Locations

Where are they coming from? Locations lets you know and is an important asset to my Mint, Locations+ drills down even further including towns and cities.

Secret Crush

Brilliant if you allow comments on your site, once cookied you can keep track of who is on your site and what they are looking at.

Downloads

The Pepper for tracking file downloads and bandwidth stats for said files, as with Tills other Pepper he is constantly tweaking and updating them.

Agree, disagree with my choices? Do let me know.

User Agent 007, Trents, Bird Feeder, Locations & Secret Crush are awesome. Local Searchs hasn’t seen much use on my Mint install, but it’s there for when my site grows to actually need searching. Downloads isn’t, as yet, needed on mine, but once I actually create a portfolio page, it’s gonna see some use for sure.

No Doorbell Pepper? I’m crushed! ;)

If you have an iPhone and the WiFi is plentiful the iPhone Pepper is killer too. (And I’m not just tooting my own horn—Richard’s done a ton of great work on it, both initially and in laying the groundwork for the single column Preferences update in 1.1.)

Downloads messes up my links every time and returns “File not found.” I’ve tried so many fixes and versions that frankly I just gave up and removed it.

@Tim, be sure to let Till know about your problems. Aside from Shaun I don’t know of any other Pepper Developer that dedicated to making sure his Pepper is constantly being fixed and updated!
